New Lamar Forrest Park Community Center

Development of the Center

"This is a great day for us ... a renewal of a legacy and also the beginning of a new legacy," Mayor Kelvin Barkowsky told those in attendance.

Ground Breaking

City officials and cash donors to the project, as well as the project superintendent for the contractor, all took shovels in hand on Tuesday, June 30, 2009 to turn some dirt as the official groundbreaking for the project.

A stand on display held an artist's rendition of how the new center will look once it is completed, along with an aged photograph and article from the June 3, 1956 edition of the Lamesa Daily Reporter of a similar ceremony held for the original community center.

Facility Aspects

The new center will be a 7,000 square-foot facility with a seating capacity from 240 up to 440 people, depending upon what style of tables and chairs are used and how they are arranged.
