THIS BUDGET WILL RAISE MORE TOTAL PROPERTY TAXES THAN LAST YEAR'S BUDGET BY $111,171.91 WHICH WILL RESULT IN A 6.282% PERCENT INCREASE, AND OF THAT AMOUNT $1,788,425.19 IS THE TAX REVENUE TO BE RAISED FROM NEW PROPERTY ADDED TO THE TAX ROLL THIS YEAR.

Notice of Public Hearing on Tax Increase

 

The City of Lamesa will hold two public hearings on a proposal to increase total tax revenues from properties on the tax roll in the preceding tax year by 6.282 percent.  Your individual taxes may increase at a greater or lesser rate, or even decrease, depending on the change in the taxable value of your property in relation to the change in taxable value of all other property and the tax rate that is adopted.


The first public hearing will be held on August 20, 2013 at 5:30 p.m. at City Hall, 601 S. 1st, Lamesa, Texas.


The second public hearing will be held on August 27, 2013 at 5:30 p.m. at City Hall, 601 S. 1st, Lamesa, Texas.


The members of the governing body voted on the proposal to consider the tax increase as follows:

The average taxable value of a residence homestead in City of Lamesa, Texas last year was $39,361.00  Based on last years tax rate of $0.7243 per $100 of taxable value, the amount of taxes imposed last year on the average home was $285.09.


The average taxable value of a residence homestead in City of Lamesa, Texas this year is $40,575.00.  If the governing body adopts the effective tax rate for this year of $0.681484 per $100 of taxable value, the amount of taxes imposed this year on the average home would be $276.51.


If the governing body adopts the proposed tax rate of $0.7243 per $100 of taxable value, the amount of taxes imposed this year on the average home would be $293.88.
